The Polaris RZR is one of the most popular UTVs on the market — and for good reason. It's fast, capable, and incredibly fun. But straight from the factory, there's plenty of room to improve comfort, protection, and performance. Whether you just picked up a new RZR or you've been riding for years, these 10 accessories are essential upgrades every RZR owner should consider.
1. Windshield
A quality windshield is the single best upgrade you can make for daily riding comfort. It keeps rocks, mud, bugs, and rain out of your face. For the RZR, we recommend a polycarbonate flip-up windshield — it gives you full protection when you want it and open-air riding when you don't. Budget around $150–$350 depending on style.
2. Roof / Hard Top
Sun, rain, and low-hanging branches are all good reasons to add a roof to your RZR. Aluminum hard tops are the most durable and provide the best protection. They bolt directly to the factory cage and typically take under an hour to install. A roof also makes your cab feel more enclosed and comfortable.
3. Doors
UTV doors keep you contained in the cab during aggressive riding and prevent trail debris from entering the cockpit. Half doors are popular for warm weather riding — they provide hip and thigh protection while keeping the cab open and airy. Full doors offer maximum protection but can make entry/exit tighter.
4. Front Bumper
A heavy-duty front bumper protects your RZR's front end from rocks, trees, and other trail hazards. Steel bumpers offer maximum protection, while aluminum options save weight. Many bumpers include integrated winch mounts and light bar brackets, making them a foundation for other upgrades.
5. LED Light Bar
Factory headlights get the job done on easy trails, but serious night riding demands more light. A quality LED light bar mounted on the roof or bumper transforms night riding. A 30-40 inch curved light bar is the sweet spot for most RZR models — bright enough to light up the trail without being overkill.
6. Storage / Cargo Box
UTVs don't come with much storage. A rear cargo box or under-seat storage bag gives you a place to stow tools, recovery gear, snacks, and spare parts. For work applications, a bed-mounted toolbox keeps everything organized and secure.
7. Winch
If you ride anywhere remotely challenging, a winch isn't optional — it's essential. A 4,500 lb winch handles most RZR recovery situations. Synthetic rope is lighter and safer than steel cable. Mount it on your front bumper so it's always ready when you (or your buddy) gets stuck.
8. Side Mirrors
Side mirrors are legally required on UTVs in many states for road use, and they're just plain practical on the trail. Clamp-on mirrors that attach to your cage are the easiest to install — no drilling required. Look for shatter-proof mirrors with vibration-dampening mounts.
9. Harness / Seat Belts
Factory seat belts work for casual riding, but if you're hitting dunes, doing high-speed desert runs, or competing, a 4-point or 5-point harness is a critical safety upgrade. It keeps you locked in the seat during rollovers and hard impacts. Always pair harnesses with a proper harness bar.
10. Skid Plate
Rocks don't care about your RZR's undercarriage. A full skid plate protects your frame, A-arms, and differential from trail damage. UHMW plastic skid plates are lighter and quieter (rocks slide rather than clang), while aluminum plates offer more rigid protection. For rocky terrain, this is non-negotiable.
Where to Start?
If budget is a concern, prioritize in this order: windshield, bumper, winch, skid plate, then everything else. These four protect your investment and keep you on the trail. The rest improve comfort and capability.
